According to BET Hip Hop Awards, these burgeoning artists are on the rise, and you don’t want to miss out. Celebrating of music and artists, both Legendary and new is important. Some of today’s rising stars have gone on to win “best new hip hop artist,” including Blxst, Don Toliver, and Yung Bleu, the latter of which took home bragging rights at last year’s ceremony. Ahead of hip hop's big night, we’ve listed several emcees making a solid buzz as the next class of talent to look out for. Ahead of their inevitable debut on the Hip Hop Awards stage, here are five rising hip-hop artists you should be
listening to.
TOP 5 RISING HIP HOP ARTIST
Doechii
Tampa, Fl native Doechii rose to prominence thanks to her September 2021 single titled “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake.” The song garnered heavy attraction on the video-sharing platform TikTok, and it ultimately caught the attention of Top Dawg Entertainment, who presented her with a record deal in a partnership with Capitol Records. Her sound can be described as a mixture of pop, dance, and hip hop. Earlier this month, she re-released her sophomore EP, She/Her/Black Bitch.
Coi Leray
Coi Leray may come from hip-hop royalty, but this Jersey native is making a name for herself and on her terms. Coi began making music as early as ten years old with the release of her first song, “Bow Down.” She dropped out of high school to pursue her rap career full-time. The decision proved to be beneficial. Since then, the raptress has released several big singles, including “No More Parties,” featuring Chicago rapper Lil Durk and her 2022 smash hit “Blick Blick,” featuring Nicki Minaj.
SoFayGo
Rapper SoFayGo found breakthrough success with his 2019 record “Knock Knock.” SoFayGo’s presence grew even more in the late 2020s after the song was used on TikTok. He’s almost 21, but he’s been making music since he was nine. In February 2021, he was signed to Travis Scott’s label Cactus Jack Records. His debut studio album Pink Heartz will be released sometime this year, but it already has a lead single, titled “Let’s Lose Our Minds.”
Baby Tate
Tate Sequoya Farris, better known as Atlanta rapper Baby Tate, gained viral fame with her single “I Am,” featuring Flo Milli. In 2021, she signed a record deal with Warner Records and released her major label debut single, "Pedi,” in October of that year. She’s released several projects in a short time frame, including her 2019 debut full-length album Girl, named one of the year’s best albums by XXL.
Duke Deuce
Memphis native Duke Deuce is bringing the Crunk sound back and amplifying his fellow hometown peers while he’s at it.
